Jasmine Oliver. Rocking Chair. April 06th , 2018.
Although many people own a rocking chair, not everyone owns a rocking chair to sway. Many times people will have a rocking chair in the room to give it a homier feel. It can also be used as part of the décor because many people use the rocking chair in the designs to get the country look. Rather it's for show or to rock, you can bet a throw will be on the chair. Rocking chair's are very beautiful and usually handcrafted wood. To give it a more subtle look sometimes a throw will be laid on the back of the rocking chair.
Wicker rocking chairs were introduced in the 1860's. They were cheaper than wooden rocking chairs, but they weren't nearly as durable. They did sell well though because the wicker could be twisted into a variety of designs. One of the most valuable wicker rocking chairs from this era features an American flag that was weaved into the design on the back of the chair. We have seen many varieties of rocking chairs through the years, and they are still well loved by people of all ages. You can purchase them at retail stores, furniture stores, and get them passed down to you from family members. Some manufacturers specialize in making custom, handmade rocking chairs. You can find out about them on the internet.
What do you think of when you think of a rocking chair? Grandpa rocking on the porch enjoying his after dinner pipe of tobacco? Maybe you get a picture of Grandma sitting by the fire knitting furiously and then falling asleep with the cat on her lap? What about a mother nursing her new born baby until the baby eventually falls to sleep (or the mother does). There is no other piece of furniture which quite evokes our memories to the same extent as the humble rocking chair, many illustrators even picture Santa Claus is a rocking chair, having forty winks before setting off back up the chimney. This chair has been an inherent part of our history and, as with so many other things has evolved a long way from its crude beginnings.
Most of our bodies' aches and pains come from stress and anxiety, and rocking is the best source of relaxation for your stressed and tense body. Studies have revealed that chronic diseases like arthritis can be minimized by rocking, as it helps reduce the pain and inflammation. The motion of the chair has a harmonic movement to your bones that keeps joints working and limber. If you have a recent awful back pain or even if you have been suffering for a prolonged time, a rocking chair can give you great support. It reduces the stress on the back by taking the pressure off your spine.
Moving outside, by choosing the proper plans and weather treated lumber, you can create beautiful outdoor furniture which could last for a decade or more. Often outdoor furniture purchased at the local super center is made from plastic, cheap fabrics, and metal supports. While it may stand up to the weather, it does not look great doing it. A classic looking two seat Adirondack rocking chair sitting on your deck or front porch will look fabulous. Instead of settling for cheap looking furniture and paying a bundle, grab your tools, a few materials, and build your own classic outdoor chair.
