The origin of the rocking chair is unknown but the first ones we do know of originated in England in the early 1700's and were made near Windsor Castle in Berkshire (which lies about a 20 minute drive away from Heathrow Airport) hence the name 'Windsor Rocker'. In all probability it came about through watching the therapeutic effect of gently rocking a baby in it's cradle, so why not do the same for adults? England was not the only country to have the rocker at that time, Sweden had another form around 1740 called the 'Gungstol', which just means rocking chair. These originally had 6 legs and were traditionally painted black with gold outlines. A four legged version became popular in the 1800's
Reaching Out to a Stressed Toddler or Child. Rocking her can help but if she is old enough, she can rock on her own kids rocking chair while she rocks beside you. The small rocking chair should be comfortable, durable, and pretty of course. You can rock in yours while she rocks in harmony with your pace. This relaxing exercise can be a game and she'll look forward to her rocking chair. This ritual can be a happy one for both of you. Those quiet moments of bonding will assure her that there's someone who has the time for her and who is ready to listen to her, go over the coloring books and picture books with her while she rocks and have fun with her art and books. The kids rocking chair will have happy associations for her when she is fully grown.
The first thing coming to mind when thinking of a rocking chair is a loving mother tenderly rocking her baby to sleep or an elderly man dozing on the porch while observing the sunset. The first rocking chairs were created in the 1700's with the intention of assisting people to fall asleep through relaxation, remove back pain for the elderly people and pregnant women, and calm down crying babies. Nowadays, this kind of a chair is extremely popular, used mostly for relaxation and lessening stress. The greater part of contemporary rocking is made with fine woods; that's the reason they serve hundreds of years.
